Five feared dead, journalist missing in Akwa Ibom

Five persons have been feared killed in Akwa Ibom State during the governorship and state House of Assembly elections on Saturday.

A reporter with one of the local tabloids, Radar Newspaper, Mr. Aniedi Ukoenang’s whereabouts is unknown.

Obanikoro’s son wins polling unit

The son of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and House of Assembly aspirant Jide Obanikoro, has won his polling unit for his party, Peoples Democratic Party.

Soldier kills voter, 21, during scuffle in Jos

A 21-year-old man was shot dead by a soldier at the Ali Kazaure polling unit in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday.

Our correspondent gathered that the man, identified as Salim Nasir, who was supporting one of the political parties, was shot dead by the soldier after he engaged a supporter of another party in a scuffle.

A former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, says there is little or no police presence in areas which the Peoples Democratic Party is considered to be strong in Lagos.

Tinubu, who is a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, said this while addressing journalists at Sunday Adigun Street, Alausa, where he voted on Saturday.

Police vehicle on election duty crashes, five injured

No fewer than five Police officers of the Ogun State Police Command on election duty Saturday, sustained serious injury on Lagos-Abeokuta road in Ewekoro local government area of the state.

The accident occurred when the vehicle crashed leaving four persons seriously injured.

Egypt court sentences Muslim Brotherhood leader to death

(CNN)An Egyptian court has sentenced the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohamed Badie, and 14 more members of the group to death for inciting violence, state-run Nile TV reported Saturday.

The criminal court sentenced the 15 defendants to death by hanging and 34 other defendants to life in prison for charges of plotting terrorist attacks against state facilities, Nile TV reported on its website.

Marijuana can kill cancer cells, says US government-funded research

The US government may be starting to officially recognize medicinal benefits of marijuana, as a government-funded research group has released a report claiming that weed can kill cancer cells.
