Samson Siasia has said his team is all out to get a win, in Saturday’s All Africa Games qualifier against Gabon.
The Dream Team VI landed in Libreville on Thursday, 24 hours after beating Kogi United 3-0 in a friendly game.
Siasia expressed his confidence ahead of the match, but admitted the team needs to work on their backline.
“Well, we are not going to play against Kogi United in Gabon, that’s for sure, though they were a tough opposition. But all the same it is good to win. It could help give a lot of confidence to our side and we know this is still a young team that is coming up,” Siasia told Goal.
“We shouldn’t expect any miracles, we just have to make sure to tactically up our game and we know we can score goals. I think we have to watch more of our defense and how to play better not to concede goals.
“We are trying to take a team that will go to Liberville to get a win, if we get a draw that’s okay but we want to go there and try to play to win,” he assured.
“No, I don’t have any concern, we take the ones that we believe can actually help us. While we are still working on building a strong team, we know the team can only get better as long as we stay together.
“That’s the biggest reason why we have to win and continue to improve on our game so that we can stay longer and the team will get stronger.
“We have these players now that are playing that we believe will go other there and make us proud. I won’t say we don’t have a team, but there is no way you can have a good team in three months.”
The match is scheduled for 2.30pm (Nigerian time) and will be played at the Stade Augustin Monedan a Sibang. The return leg will be played on March 7 and the winner will face either Zambia or Madagascar for a place in the 2015 All Africa Games.
