The photographers who took these pictures have insisted Sir Elton was carrying the Dolce & Gabbana bag when the images were taken on March 16, after Sir Elton was dropped off in his chauffeur-driven SUV.
Initially, when approached by MailOnline about the images, a spokesman for the singer said: 'He went to the recording studio, not shopping.'
A short while later, he told MailOnline in a phone conversation that the photos were 'old' and had not been taken yesterday.
However, when asked for clarification over when he claimed the photos had been taken, the spokesman backtracked and said the pictures had infact been taken yesterday - but that they had been Photoshopped.
He wrote in an e-mail: 'They are from yesterday, But Elton was carrying a BLACK BRIEF CASE. So these have been photo shopped (sic).'
