The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Babajide Omoworare, has been declared the winner of the senatorial election  in the area.

The Returning oOficer for the senatorial district, Prof. Mabauoje Aluko, declared  Omoworare  the winner of the poll with 101,352 votes while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Francis Fadahunsi, came second with 99,166 votes in the keenly contested election.

The result was announced at Ilesa Grammar School, Ilesa, venue of the collation centre for the senatorial poll.

Agent of the PDP refused to sign the poll result but the returning officer said their action wouldn’t invalidate the result.

Meanwhile, Fadahunsi has alleged  that he escaped assassination attempt on his life on Sunday night.

The PDP candidate spoke through the Director of Publicity of his campaign  organisation,  Mr. Sola Olowoye, in an interview with journalists in Osogbo on Monday.
Olowoye said, “He ( Olowoye) barely escaped being hit by the bullets.”

Fadahunshi was in company with the state chairman of PDP, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, and other party leaders when the attack allegedly took place.

“They had visited the INEC office because of the delay in announcing the winner of the senatorial contest.”

The Commissioner of Police in charge of election, Mr. Sam Okaula, could not be reached as calls put across to his telephone failed to connect.
