A passenger plane skidded off a snowy runway at LaGuardia Airport, smashing its nose through a seawall fence and breaking off a wing Thursday morning.
Everyone on board is “safe” and there were no serious injuries, but some of the 135 passengers and five crew members on board suffered “bumps and bruises,” sources said.
At about 12:30 p.m., a middle-aged black man who appeared to be in shock was seen getting wheeled on a gurney through Terminal D, where the passengers were being examined and treated.
Fuel was leaking from the MD-88 jet and emergency responders were spraying foam to prevent a potential fire.
Sources said Delta Flight 1086 from Atlanta was landing when it slid off the side of Runway 13 around 11 a.m. It came to rest with its nose hanging over a Flushing Bay seawall.
Passenger Sam Stern, 64, of Sarasota, Fla., was seated in an emergency-exit row and had to yank out the window so everyone could escape.
“We came in for landing, the plane hit the ground. As it started to apply the brakes, it started skidding. It didn’t spin around or anything,” he said. “It ended up hitting the embankment. The wing broke off.”
“I’m fine, I hurt my back. Everybody was shaken up, but everyone remained calm and was very caring about everybody else,” he added.
New York Giants tight end Larry Donnell posted a dramatic photo of fellow passengers clambering out of the plane and fleeing through a snowstorm.
“Look at this s–t! Knew I shoulda stayed my ass at home,” the 26-year-old Atlanta native captioned a video that he posted on Instagram.
LaGuardia was closed at 11:09 a.m. until at least 7 p.m., sources said.
Passengers were led off the plane through an exit over a wing.
Broadway producer Michael J. Moritz Jr. said he saw the incident unfold while sitting aboard another plane on the airport tarmac.
“From my view, plane made touchdown, then lost control, swerved [then] crashed into a barrier,” he told The Post via Twitter.
A photo posted on Twitter by user @jjay149 shows snow spraying around the jet’s tail.
In a statement, Delta said: “Customers deplaned via aircraft slides and have moved to the terminal on buses. Our priority is ensuring our customers and crew members are safe. Delta will work with all authorities and stakeholders to look into what happened in this incident.”
Entertainment publicist Jaime Primak Sullivan, star of the “Jersey Belle” reality TV show, also tweeted: “We just crash landed at LGA. I’m terrified. Please…”
