President Jacob Zuma has won the lotto – and plans to use it to pay off part of the expenses involved in upgrading his homestead in Nkandla.
“The presidency is pleased to announce, that the president won the lottery,” spokesman Mac Maharaj told reporters.
“He will be using the money to pay for part of the upgrades to his Nkandla household, demonstrating his commitment to integrity within the South African government,” Maharaj continued.
Opposition parties are stunned by the turn of events.
“We applaud the president’s decision of course, but question the wisdom of depending on lottery winnings to pay off his debts,” DA leader Helen Zille said.
“Zuma must pay back all the money,” said EFF leader Julius Malema, “Not just the R25 million he won over the weekend.”
The ANC responded that this just showed that the opposition will never be satisfied, as their concerns are more founded on political opportunism than actual grievances.
