The Nigerian Army has assured the public that they would provide adequate security during the forth coming general elections.
The army said officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and election materials will be protected during and after the elections.
This was stated by the Commander of 2 Brigade Port Harcourt, Koko Essien at a media briefing held at the Bori Camp in Port Harcourt.
The commander told reporters that the army will deploy its troops to cover both the land and waterways in other to halt any form of electoral offences.
According to him, “We have a mandate to support the success of these elections, and so, my men will provide security to INEC officials and materials on ground and waterways in a constitutional manner.
“Come March 28 and April 11, people should feel free and come out to vote any candidate of their choice because we are working with other sister security services to provide a top notch security.”
In addition, the Commander of 2 Brigade Port Harcourt, Koko Essien, called for media partnership and support in the fight against oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the state.
