The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reacted to media reports that the anti-graft agency has frozen the accounts of popular Enugu-based Catholic priest, Father Ejike Mbaka.

In a short statement sent to LEADERSHIP yesterday, the Commission noted that there is no truth in the reports, saying the peddlers of such rumours should discontinue.

The statement signed by the spokesperson of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren read that “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC has been drawn to reports in a section of the media claiming that the Commission had frozen the accounts of Enugu-based Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Mass fame.

“The commission wishes to state that there is no truth in the report and should be discountenanced.”

The commission however, called on journalists to cross check the sources of their news story before going to the press in order to mislead the public, noting that “We urge journalists to endeavour to cross check their facts with the Commission to avoid turning their organisations into instruments of public misinformation.”
