Mohammed Emwazi, the ISIL executioner dubbed “Jihadi John”, has reportedly apologised to his family for bringing them shame.

The 26-year-old computer science graduate from London has relayed the message to his family via a third party from Syria, reported The Sunday Times.

He is reportedly remorseful for the "problems and trouble the revelation of his identity has caused" for his family.

Emwazi's mother and four of his siblings have been placed under police protection at an undisclosed address in Britain, at a cost of around $10,000 a day.

Last month his identity was revealed by The Washington Post.

His father, 51-year-old Jasem Emwazi, is living in Kuwait and reportedly referred to his son as a “dog".

“Jihadi John” is believed to be the perpetrator of the beheading murders of British aid workers David Haines and Alan Henning among others executed by ISIL.

An audio recording released last week purportedly heard Emwazi condemning terror attacks such as 9/11 during an interview with a British human rights group.

A former headteacher of the British graduate said Emwazi was bullied at school but remembered him as a "hardworking and aspirational young man".
