Five victims of the yet-to-be-identified killer disease ravaging Irele community in Ondo State are responding well to treatment at the University College Hosptal, Ibadan.

Ondo State Government moved the victims to the UCH on Saturday night for further treatment after about 17 persons were believed to have died as a result of the strange disease in the community.

The Commissioner for Health in Ondo State, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Monday.

Adeyanju also urged those having symptoms of the disease, which he listed as headache and  blurred vision, to report to any health facility around them.

He said, “The five of them moved to the UCH are stable. They are responding to treatment. “

Reacting to the rumour that more  fresh deaths were recorded in the town on Sunday evening, the commissioner said that he could not confirm it.

He explained that the surveillance team of the state government was still in the town and members of the team were the only one, who could ascertain if the deaths were related to the unknown disease.

However, some residents of the community told our correspondent that three more persons had died as a result of the killer disease.

A resident, Mr. Jobi Enimade, said the fresh deaths were recorded at the outskirts of Irele town on Sunday evening.

Enimade said, “Three more persons died today. The three persons died in some settlements outside Irele town. One of them died at Gbogunron Camp but I have not got the names of the hamlets where the other two persons died.
