Two men and a woman were found dead by police in a house in Dungog in the Hunter region of NSW.

NSW police said a cause of death has not yet been determined and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

The Dungog Chronicle reports that the three deceased people were all elderly, and that another couple aged in their 70s have been rescued by SES crews as they dangled form a gutter.

This afternoon an evacuation centre has been set up at Dungog High School in Eloiza Street, Dungog. Authorities say residents should bring necessary personal medication and that small pets are welcome.

Authorities are warning of damaging winds, rain, flooding and surf into the night.
From the Bureau of Meteorology: “A severe weather warning remains in place today for destructive and damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and dangerous surf conditions for the Sydney metropolitan, Hunter and Central Coast, Wollongong and Illawarra regions.

“The conditions are being caused by an intense low pressure system combined with a strengthening high pressure ridge over the southern Tasman Sea.

“The low is expected to move slowly southwards today, staying close to the heavily populated coastal regions including Newcastle, the Central Coast, Sydney and Wollongong. Severe weather conditions are expected to ease later today (Tuesday) and into Wednesday.

The Bureau of Meteorology this afternoon sent 100,000 texts to Hunter valley residents warning of flash flooding and intense rainfall into the night.
