BENIN—SUSPECTED cultists went on rampage Monday evening in Benin, Edo State capital, killing two mothers when they attacked the homes of some of their targets.
This came as a youth leader in the state, Mr. Tony Adun, alias Tony Kabaka, who raised an alarm over the spate of cult-related killings in the state, called on the state government and the state House of Assembly to urgently set up a task force against cultism in the state to check the excesses of the perpetrators.
No fewer than 25 persons, according to him, have been killed by cultists in the state in the past two weeks.
The armed men were said to have stormed Virginia Junction by Murtala Muhammed Way, at about 8pm in search of their target, said to be a 25-year-old boy.
They were said to have gone to the store belonging to the mother of their target, but when they queried the woman about the whereabouts of the son, she was said to have told them that she had not set her eyes on him for over two weeks.
The armed men were said to have gone to the residence of the boy and found him at home. They killed him, went back to the woman’s shop and shot her dead.
In New Benin area, the gun-men shot their target’s mother as they could not find him.
Over 10 persons have died in the past week in the renewed cult war, to which the police command in the state is yet to find a solution.
